Nose
Sherry central. Bitter chocolate, coffee grounds, treacle, liquorice, tinned prunes in syrup. A leathery/shoe polish note suggestive of age. Smoke emerges but in a savoury way.
Palate
The nose shouts:“here be tannins”and it’s not wrong. Grippy, stewed Earl Grey tea. Still savoury with a sweetness in the centre . Better with water where the smoke comes through but aggressive and unbalanced.
Finish
Tarry and nutty malt.
Comment
An acquired taste. Some will like it, but it’s too woody and nothing on the 1974 bottling by la Maison du Whisky.

Nose
A sherry cask, for sure. Dark wood. Humus in a wet underwood. Sultanas, dried dates. Liquorice. All concentrated aromas.
Palate
Just the same. With assertive wood prevailing. Quite refined though.
Finish
Oaky with a burnt wood note. Nutty aftertaste.
Comment
A“wyniwyg”(what you nose is what you get) whisky. You have got to be a sherry cask fan. I’d like to perceive more distillery character.
